29 Aug 2008 - Summer update
Finally some Dirk news... Yep, it's been way too long, but that's just because I've been way too busy! Anyways, I hope you'll enjoy my brand spanking new live video, shot by my wife Hannah at this year's Wacken Open Air festival- see "latest media" to your left. There are also four new songs available in the media/audio section, taken from some of my latest recordings. Speaking of which, SYBREED's Antares has just been released in the USA through Koch Records, so if you don't own that monster yet, better run and grab yourself a copy right now!
Also in stores courtesy of the good people at Metal Blade is the self-titled debut CD by ONE-WAY MIRROR, and in order to promote that crushing slab o' heaviness, the boys & I will be opening for SOILWORK on our European headlining tour this Fall. Yes indeed, I will perform with both bands, and the third act on the bill is none other than ZIMMERS HOLE featuring the almighty drumgod Gene Hoglan... Will that be a grand metal feast or what?!
Speaking of SOILWORK, we just finished a lengthy run of Summer Festivals in Europe, and I must say it was a total blast playing alongside some of my all-time musical heroes such as NAPALM DEATH, MORBID ANGEL, ENTOMBED and tons more... Many thanks to all of you who came out to support us! Apart from the above-mentioned European tour, more SOILWORK shows will be announced very soon so keep that lazy eye open.
Finally, I would like to introduce two new companies I'm working with: first off there's the mighty dB Drumshoes from Belleville, Illinois. I've been happily playing these babies for over six months now, and my verdict is simple: any self-respecting (and foot-sweating) drummer needs these shoes! Take a look at the dB website and do yourself a favor by trying them out. Secondly, please meet Serial Drummer, a kick ass clothing line from Marseille, France. This company is run by my good friend Francky Constanza from French metallers DAGOBA and as usual, the man's got things down to perfection! Check out the Serial Drummer website and indulge in an uncontrollable clothing frenzy!

Time for another update y'all... Right now I'm tearing up them drums with SOILWORK alongside THROWDOWN, THROUGH THE EYES OF THE DEAD and WAR OF AGES just about everywhere in the U.S. Yessireee, the Scum Of The Earth Tour is a heavy-ass package to say the least! If you wanna feel that metal fist crack your skull, better get your tickets now on the SOILWORK website or MySpace - be fast while supplies last!
And now for something quite exclusive and fancy: on the left you can discover the artwork for the upcoming WARREL DANE album Praises To The War Machine! This groovy slab of metal is due out on April 28th in Europe and May 13th in the U.S. on Century Media, and you can listen to the song "Messenger" (featuring a guest appearance by shredmeister Jeff Loomis of NEVERMORE) on WARREL DANE's MySpace page.
I also want to take this opportunity to thank my friend and kick-ass drummer Morten Lowe Sorensen for filling in for me on SOILWORK's Estonia and Latvia dates last month. You rule brother! Check out Morten's mindblowing work behind the kit in THE ARCANE ORDER, SUBMISSION or one of his 27 other bands.
Oh, and before I forget: make sure to grab a copy of the March 2008 issue of DRUM! Magazine for a metal round-table with Chris Adler, Justin Foley, John Boecklin and yours truly!

Howdy boyz 'n galz! I'm writing this straight from sunny Phoenix, Arizona where SOILWORK is about to round up the Clash Of The Metal Titans Tour with KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, LAMB OF GOD and DEVILDRIVER. We're having a blast spewing our unmistakenly Swedish decibels into them big-ass venues, and it's truly an honor and a pleasure for me to play alongside these bands and their heavily pounding drummers... Beards 'R' Us baby! Thanks a lot to all of you who came out and supported SOILWORK on this tour! We'll be criss-crossing the planet again very shortly, so make sure to keep an attentive eye on the shows page.
Now on to some other news: you may be aware that Warrel Dane of NEVERMORE is working on a solo record; well, I laid down drums on that fucker, and producer/songwriter Peter Wichers just informed me that the final mix is done! I'm very excited about this record, having been a fan of Warrel's majestic vocals for just about forever and of course working with my friends Peter and Matt Wicklund... Some mp3s should be available soon and you can read updates from Warrel himself here.
Another recently completed recording is ONE-WAY MIRROR by the band of the same name, which consists of Guillaume Bideau (MNEMIC, ex-SCARVE), David and Franck Potvin (LYZANXIA, PHAZE I), Loic Colin (SCARVE) and myself. To put it simply, OWM equals a flood of mammoth riffs, stomping beats and goosebump-inducing choruses! This monster was mixed and mastered by Tue Madsen with drums recorded by the mighty Daniel Bergstrand and it should be unleashed sometime next year. Meanwhile, check out an exclusive teaser on the ONE-WAY MIRROR MySpace page.
