06 Oct 2007 - Fall update
Hey everyone, how's it rollin'? I'm sorry it's been so long since my last update. Things have been craaaazy hectic as usual...
First and foremost, the new SOILWORK album Sworn To A Great Divide is out on October 19th in Europe, 23rd in the US and 24th in Japan. We're all extremely proud and excited about this record! Make sure to give it a spin, I guarantee you won't be disappointed! Look for a new song in the audio section very soon. Also, as you may already know, we are currently touring Europe to promote our newest pride and joy. If you haven't gotten tickets yet, better do it now! Who knows when we'll be back in town... And just so you Americans don't feel left out, we have a cruncher of a tour coming for the end of the year. This will be a total widow maker! Come and rock with the bands that know how to have a good time, cos this will be the perfect angst reliever for the end of the year! All the dates can be found on the shows page and of course on the official Soilwork website.
In other news, the second volume of the NUCLEAR BLAST ALLSTARS entitled Out Of The Dark is in stores now! It features ten heavy-as-fuck songs by my good friend and ex-SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers, as well as a bunch of talented singers including Bjorn "Speed" Strid (SOILWORK), Jari Maenpaa (WINTERSUN) and Guillaume Bideau (MNEMIC, ex-SCARVE). For this recording I shared the drumthrone wih none other than groovemeister Henry Ranta (also ex-SOILWORK) and yes, the album turned out to be pretty damn killer! More details and ordering information on the discography page.
Also out now on the mighty Listenable Records is the ass-whooping new SYBREED CD Antares! Just picture Meshuggah beating up Katatonia in a twisted whirlwind of technical extremity. Seriously, these guys are the future of metal, so do the right thing and order Antares now or you'll regret it forever!
Now on to some Dirk news... I hope you got the time to see the Metal Maniacs issue I was in. If you missed it wand want to order a copy, go here. It's truly an honor to be featured on the pages of a metal classic and I'm extremely thankful for the magazine's support! Furthermore, you can head to the press section for an updated list of recent features and interviews.
Another thing I am very happy to inform you about is my brand new TAMA signature drumsticks! They're based on my favorite 216B and made out of Japanese oak; without a doubt one of the sturdiest models on the market. Now these are a rarity in some countries because unfortunately TAMA doesn't distribute their sticks worldwide just yet. But there is always a way to get what you want! So you can either grab a pair from me at the end of a show or make a request on the TAMA website!
That's about it for now... As always, thank you all for your support. I will check in again soon, and until then, see you on the road!

06 Jun 2007 - June news!
What's up folks? It's been a while, but finally I'm back with some blasting news!
Let's begin with SCARVE... Our latest album The Undercurrent has received an excellent response from press and fans alike, proving that despite some recent line-up changes, we're still very much alive & kicking! As a matter of fact, SCARVE will be performing at the Hellfest and Graspop festivals later this month. Find out more on our brand new official webpage, courtesy of mastermind Dan McCaulley.
Now on to the new SOILWORK record which is in the process of being mixed. The rough versions I've heard so far sound extremely enticing, to say the least! This album is going to have a very natural, warm, yet powerful production, and that counts for the drums too. As for Speed's vocals, they will make you crap your diapers! I honestly can't wait till this monster is done. Meanwhile, don't miss our upcoming festival appearances at Hard Rock Laager and Ilosaari Rock. All details are on the official Soilwork website.
You know I love to blast, and I know you love that shit too! So better make sure to catch Inventory Of Fixtures, the new SUBLIME CADAVERIC DECOMPOSITION album which is out now on Bizarre Leprous Productions. There’s also a vinyl version limited to 500 copies which can be ordered from EveryDayHate Records. This record will grind you to the bone!
To end this update with some less relevant news, I'll take a moment to clarify a few things in regards to ex-SCARVE vocalist Pierrick Valence’s most recent declarations. First off, I fully contributed to the writing of The Undercurrent. Pierrick’s statement regarding my involvement in the making of this album is completely untrue; then again, his total absence at our rehearsals probably explains his ignorance. In an attempt to slander me, Pierrick made another false statement about my abruptly and carelessly leaving my band and my country. The fact is, I’m still an official SCARVE member, and I left my native Belgium in 1988. I moved from France last year because I got married; no other reason. Despite the consequences of this personal choice, which transcend far more than SCARVE, I’m still very involved in and enthusiastic about the band I co-formed in 1993.
Pierrick’s one-sided attitude comes as no surprise. Once this was an issue SCARVE handled behind closed doors; now it’s out in the open. As his first serious band, we’ve supported Pierrick for six years, yet he still feels the need to slander us, hence our relief about his departure.
Should anyone question my passionate devotion to the underground scene, please feel free to explore the discography and media sections of this site and check out some of the bands I’ve been working with!
As for the requested goodbye: adieu Pierrick.
Stay tuned for more news coming up very soon!

13 Mar 2007 - Studio update & more
Here's a little update straight out of Helsingborg, Sweden... I'm excited to announce that all drum tracks for the upcoming SOILWORK album are now finished! Everything went very smoothly, and it was extremely inspiring to work with Peter Wildoer and Klas Ideberg (DARKANE). They both did a great job engineering and coaching me; proof is I ended up recording no less than 19 songs in five days! Since the album will only feature about 12 tracks, we may have some extra material for a future release, who knows? In any case, the drums sound astonishing and the new songs are heavy & catchy as hell- expect a stellar album for sure! You can check out some pictures and a short video of the recordings at the official SOILWORK website.
Also, last week I had the pleasure to listen to a rough mix of the upcoming SYBREED album which I played drums on, and it turned out to be truly amazing! Anyone into modern, melodic, technical metal WILL be blown away! Keep an eye on the SYBREED website for release dates & information.
Finally, the May 2007 issue of Metal Maniacs featuring a cool four page long Dirk Verbeuren story is now in stores. Don't miss it! Special thanks go to the entire Metal Maniacs crew and MetalGeorge for this killer feature!

Peter Wildoer & me throwing the horns!
